Verses on the Bodhisattva Practice

如何成佛道

How do we complete the path to buddhahood? 

菩提心為先

We must initiate our bodhi-mind.

何謂菩提心

What is bodhi-mind?

利他為第一

Benefit others above all!

爲利眾生故

For the sake of benefiting sentient beings,

不畏諸苦難

We do not fear suffering and difficulty.

若眾生離苦

If others depart from suffering,

自苦即安樂

Our own suffering would be assuaged.

發心學佛者

Those who aspire to learn from the Buddha

即名為菩薩

Are proclaimed bodhisattvas.

菩薩最勝行

The supreme act of a bodhisattva

悲智度眾生

Is to deliver sentient beings with wisdom and compassion.
